About Me

Hey there, I'm Ian Matthew Sobule. I'm currently working as a Full Stack Developer and Team Lead for Suretybonds.com.

I'm a late bloomer in web development and computer science. Growing up, I always had a passion for three things: Theatre, Film, and The Denver Broncos. No university offered a degree of Denver Broncos, so I settled for 2 out of 3 and studied Theatre and Film at The University of Missouri before dropping out and moving to Chicago to pursue an acting career.

After my brief stint as a starving artist, I began to wonder if there were any other careers out there for me. That's when I started looking into programming, and my life began to totally change. I began by taking Harvard's CS50. I was blown away and hooked by David Malan's enthusiasm and motivated by the course's challenges.

I really felt that I had discovered my passion. With good fortune, I enrolled in a program called LaunchCode, a nonprofit that helps people launch new careers in tech. With the confidence I could make this late-career switch, I realized I was genuinely excited about learning this learning industry and its tools. Shortly after graduating, I landed my first job as a web developer.

In the 4+ years since taking that first job, I've continued learning and growing as a developer. I've taken a significant interest in mentoring others in the past few years. I have an immense sense of gratitude to all of those that helped me find this career I love so much -- and I want nothing more but to pay it forward.

Today, you can find me hanging out with my greyhound, Sweetie. In my free time, if I'm not coding up some side project, I'm probably rehearsing a show with my theater company or hanging with my family.
